How can  Chiropractor  Help you if you live in Baton Rouge ?

Before I begin, let me give you a little insight to where my perspective on the healing comes from. By training, I’m a scientist. I am really good at looking at issues critically and deciphering facts and problems based on factual evidence and sound theories. At the same time, I always had an interest in alternative medicine and while I lived in Seattle for 5 years, I had the chance to experience directly and learn various healing modalities such as naturopathic physician care,  acupuncture, homeopathy, chiropractic in Baton Rouge.

Herniated Disc Treatment

Some of my knowledge comes from being the inquisitive patient, some comes from discussions with students of Bastyr College of Naturopathic medicine who I befriended while in Seattle.  While in Baton Rouge I also took several classes on Reiki, and became a Reiki Master/Teacher and hence I have the insiders perspective on how energy healing works and what it can and can’t do.I am a strong advocate of alternative therapies in conjunction with or sometimes instead of traditional medicine. However, recently, I have been really bothered by practices of chiropractor (some not all) and I feel that there are many out there that take advantage of the general lack of understanding of how the human body works in patients to keep their businesses going.

Herniated Disc Treatment Chiropractors are the largest doctored profession outside of the traditional medical practitioners such as traditional doctors and dentists. Some people regard chiropractic therapy as alternative medicine however it is quite popular and chiropractors generally do not agree with the therapy being termed as alternative medicine. The most common problems addressed by the therapy involve the spine and in particular deal with the back and the neck. Lower back pain is the most often treated complaint. The therapy is largely manual and is therefore drug free. The side effects are minor and usually related to the manual adjustments which last on an average for a day. Surveys show that satisfaction levels for patients treated with chiropractic therapy are high. They are higher than those for traditional medicine. Also the average rapport between a patient and a chiropractic doctor is more than an average rapport between a traditional doctor and the patient. This is probably because chiropractic therapy aims to be holistic and a good rapport with the patient is considered important. The cost of chiropractic care is usually lower than the cost for traditional medical care. However medical insurance does not always cover chiropractic therapy. However in the USA for most states insurers are required to cover it. There are not many high quality studies evaluating chiropractic therapy though for lower back pain its effectiveness is considered to be very good. For other benefits critics of chiropractic therapy say that it benefits from what is known as a "placebo response" where a patient starts to feel better just by the knowledge that the patient is being treated. Being drug free it is generally regarded as a safe therapy though like other medical practices it is not entirely devoid of risk. In some cases the manual adjustments if not done correctly can lead to complications. Another issue with the therapy is that unlike traditional medical practitioners honesty amongst chiropractors is considered to be lower than that for other doctored professions. Therefore it is important to find a good chiropractor and verify the credentials well before committing yourself to a treatment using the therapy. Herniated Disc Symptoms

Can a Chiropractor Help People With Sciatica Pain Relief?

I play a lot of hockey and have a bad back and have had foot pain for a number of years now and after much thought, I decided to go to a local chiropractor to get some relief. I had talked to a neighbor who told me he had a bad back as well and used a chiropractor on a regular basis. He recommended his chiropractor and I setup an appointment for an initial visit where they run some tests and determine what type of treatment you will need. The cost of my initial visit was $50 and the initial visit was about an hour in length. When treatment started, my first treatment was initially a little scary as I had never had my back cracked or manipulated before. You see, you lay on a table and the chiropractor puts pressure on your spine with a quick movement causing your back to make a popping noise, which the chiropractor said was a type of gas that your body produces and the sudden popping noise is harmless. Of course I signed the waiver you get when you first sign up to get treatment allowing them no legal responsibility should you suffer any problems or side effects. When my chiropractor was finished with the treatment, he put some ice cold gel, which is an anti-inflammatory on my back and if felt great after each treatment. I now use the anti-inflammatory all the time when my back gets a little sore from too much hockey or physical activity. I ended up going to the chiropractor for about 15 treatments and felt a great deal of relief from the chiropractic appointments. After each visit you feel so much better as the manipulation relieves tension in the body. The doctor also helped me with some stretching exercises for my back and showed me how to maintain my posture and keep good back health by even stretching a certain way while driving my car which was bothering me as well. He also suggested buying some ankle weights to help build strength for some meniscus pain I was having in my right knee as well which also helped a great deal. Overall I had a great experience with my local chiropractor and will use them again if I have future problems. Neck Pain Treatment

Can a Chiropractic help with Treatment of Hip Pain?

Many people today are opting for natural healing. And one of the most popular natural healing methods is chiropractic. Chiropractors are trained to provide relief to their patients as fast as they possibly can. A reputable chiropractic practitioner will recommend the smallest number of treatments necessary to help prevent the patient's condition from recurring. If it is your first time to visit a chiropractic clinic, here are the steps that might help you.- Before a patient is treated, the chiropractor needs to conduct an interview with the patient. This may be done face to face or over the telephone. - During this interview, the chiropractor will discuss his philosophy and approach toward treatment. You will be asked to fill out forms which will provide the chiropractor with the information he needs to develop your treatment plan. The questions on the form will revolve around the details of your condition. Additionally, you may be asked to provide details about your family's and your own medical history, past and current treatments, and other existing conditions. - You will then undergo a chiropractic exam. The chiropractor will conduct a few general tests followed by other tests designed to evaluate your range of motion, muscle strength and tone, and neurological integrity. In some cases, the patient may be asked to undergo further chiropractic tests. Some patients may be asked to undergo diagnostic studies after the chiropractic exam. Diagnostic studies can sometimes aid in enabling the chiropractor to make a more accurate diagnosis. These may include x-rays, MRI, and other lab tests. - Combining the findings from the patient's history, chiropractic exam, and diagnostic studies, the chiropractor can then proceed to make a diagnosis. Once a diagnosis has been made, the chiropractor will explain his findings, whether chiropractic can help you, the treatment plan, and the length of the treatment process. Actual treatment may start during the first visit or the following visit. Although treatment plans are tailored to each individual patient, most plans include adjustment of the joints, soft tissue healing techniques, pain control, strengthening and stretching exercises, advice on proper posture and movement, and treatments like massage, cold/hot compress, and nutritional advice. Treatment plans for patients are often divided into two parts. The initial phase is centered on providing immediate pain relief and restoring normal functions. The second phase is long-term in nature and is geared toward enabling the patience to achieve a good measure of functional independence which, in turn, should lead to the complete restoration of the patient's ability to enjoy his normal routines. These are the basic steps you should remember when planning to visit a chiropractic clinic for the first time. Spinal Decompression

Chiropractic Adjustment Baton Rouge

Chiropractic spinal traction therapy in Baton Rouge is a method of stretching and mobilizing the spine using hands-on or mechanic force. Alleviation in pain is sought with therapeutic spinal traction by loosening tight and/or constricted muscles around the spine, and to help decompress intervertebral discs in order to relieve pressure on the spinal nerve roots, which is a major cause of back and spine related pain. As with other chiropractic treatments, spinal traction may or may not help alleviate your pain, often times with chiropractic treatment what works on one patient may not be right for others. Your chiropractor will evaluate your condition and determine if traction, and in what form, is right for you.

Chronic Back Pain A good chiropractor should be able to determine what the cause of the muscle imbalance and/or spine misalignment is, whether it is purely structural or whether there is an underlying problem such as a nutrient deficiency, food sensitivity, a toxic overload, or a hormonal imbalance. This takes not only a good chiropractor but an inquisitive mind set as well as good doctoring skills. These are not taught in all chiropractic schools, and the good chiropractors have usually had lots of other training, for example in applied kinesiology. Hence in my view, chiropractic adjustments are useful to address some musculoskeletal issues. For sure, for acute injuries to the system. When it comes to chronic pain though, the key to getting rid of the issue is addressing the cause. A practitioner who understands how the body works will use a combination of spinal manipulation with physical therapy to address tight and weak muscles, and offer a plan on removing the cause of the ailment (postural habits, etc). This would be similar to the work of a physical therapist skilled in spinal manipulation. Often however even that is not enough. A chiropractor with a firm belief that removing spine misalignments is all that is needed to treat a person will likely keep a person with a vitamin deficiency or a food allergy in treatment for months (and be unsuccessful). I think that is plain ignorant. To treat a person, all aspects of the body have to be considered and for that a holistic practitioner acknowledging the whole body approach to healing is needed. A good chiropractor will recognize the limitation of his or her work and will refer a patient to someone else if spinal manipulation is not producing lasting results. Long term Chiropractic care many chiropractors think that regular spinal manipulations are necessary to stay healthy. After all, in their minds, all disease originates in the spine, and hence small misalignments should be frequently removed for optimal health. It is not clear to me whether these chiropractors actually believe this or whether they simply understand that they will have clients for life, as long as the client believes that he or she should see the chiropractor once a month for optimal health. Of course, services are not limited to adults. Many chiropractors now offer a family package and start adjusting children from infancy; For maintenance: once a month for the rest of their lives.Maintenance may be a good idea a couple times a year or after accidents to prevent the problem of "as the twig is bent, so grows the tree". However, there is more to good maintenance healthcare than adjusting. The biochemical and emotional systems also need maintenance, and typically people with more balanced chemical and emotional systems will need less adjustment to stay feeling good. A good alternative to using a chiropractor for health maintenance is using a practitioner who can address the full spectrum of healthcare and preventive maintenance, such as a Naturopathic Doctor also trained in physical medicine. In summary: The good: chiropractic manipulation can be extremely helpful in reducing or removing pain, often chronic. The bad: Typical chiropractors address only the structural component of the problem. Some will often guidance on how to stretch and strengthen affected muscle groups to help the spine in alignment. Most do not tackle the chemical/hormonal aspect of the problem which are often the hidden cause of spinal misalignments. There is also an emotional aspect of spinal alignments which is rarely addressed. The ugly: Chiropractors often set up their practice with the intention of keeping the clients coming and coming and coming. It's not uncommon to see packages of 60 to 80 visits sold upfront: not only for you - but for your entire family, whether they are ill or not! Optimal Solution: Finding a practitioner who understands the relationship between the musculoskeletal, biochemical, and emotional systems in your body, and can get to the cause of your problem. This can be a holistic chiropractor, naturopathic doctor trained in spinal manipulation, or perhaps a chiropractor who's also an acupuncturist. Severe Back Pain

Chiropractors - Be Proactive To Avoid OSHA Citations and Fines

As I learn more about chiropractic I am quickly realizing they have a huge job to communicate what chiropractic is to the general public. That mission can be easily side tracked while trying to run a business worrying about the day in and day out details. One detail that commonly gets over looked is a clinics regulatory obligation to provide a safe workplace under the OSHA Act. A quick fact - Employers with one or more employees must comply with OSHA regulations. This is no different for Chiropractic Clinics they are required to meet minimum OSHA requirements if they have one or more employees. Knowing and understanding what OSHA regulations apply to you is key to avoiding citations and fines. As stated above, chiropractors have more import items to worry about when running a clinic then OSHA compliance. However, not being proactive could be a mistake. While OSHA inspections are not common place in the SIC code 8041 (chiropractic clinics) they do occur. When a fine is assessed the average cost is $1028.00 before any informal settlements. Being proactive, and getting your OSHA compliance house in order can help you avoid this potentially costly trap. When developing an OSHA compliance strategy consider the following 3 key components- A safety program manual that addresses only the programs that are required for your chiropractic clinic that meets minimum OSHA requirements. To complete this you can develop one yourself, find a local safety consultant or search the internet to find a provider. A word of caution, many safety manuals are available online and may meet your needs for providing the required safety programs but not address the next 2 items below.- Ensure required safety training is completed and documented. Many of the safety programs you will need to develop and maintain require training at different intervals. Annually, is a common frequency but is not always the requirement. Take the time to develop a training matrix so you know when and who needs to be trained.- OSHA doesn't require that you complete physical inspections but they do require that you maintain compliance with standard requirements. As an example, the machine guarding standard would require guards in certain machinery be maintained. The best way to ensure guards are in place when required is to complete routine inspections so you can see they are on and working as intended. Being proactive when developing your safety program, safety training and inspection strategies can pay off if you do get an OSHA inspection and they don't have to be time consuming or expensive. There are many safety professionals that want to help you succeed. They understand your mission is to talk to the public about chiropractic. Not OSHA compliance and the details that come with a compliance program. Severe Back Pain

What is Chiropractor’s Best Suggestion for Back Pain Treatment?

Anxiety isn't the only menopause symptom. Menopause can also cause a slew of other emotional and physical symptoms including back pain and discomfort. The good news is that menopausal women who suffer from back problems are finding relief through chiropractic medicine. What is chiropractic medicine? It is a treatment that assists in restoring balance, healing and energy throughout the body. When our bodies lack balance, the hormonal and stress response system are affected. Thus, chiropractic medicine works by alleviating pressure on the nerve roots of the spine, helping to relieve discomfort. It detects dislocation (subluxation) and promotes correction by encouraging the function, repair, coordination and communication of the nervous system. Chiropractic medicine is a non-invasive drug-free treatment that is performed by a chiropractor. How is it performed? First of all, chiropractor treatment will vary for each patient, as different techniques may be used to help alleviate certain symptoms or health conditions. Therefore, a chiropractor will want to know the medical history of the patient and their current health problems. Once this information has been processed, treatment will then be provided. Most chiropractors will use their hands to perform treatment; however, they may also use other treatment methods such as light, heat, ultrasound, electrotherapy and other special adjusting instruments. You will also likely be provided with information regarding a personalized exercise program, nutrition and lifestyle changes that can help improve your symptoms. Is treatment painful? No. Most people find chiropractic medicine to be quite relaxing. What may be unnerving to some patients are popping sounds that joints make when they are adjusted. This popping noise is the sound that occurs when a gas bubble between the joints pop. It's the same sound and feeling that happens when you crack your knuckles. How can a chiropractor help during menopause? Chiropractic medicine can relieve a variety of painful and uncomfortable menopause symptoms related to estrogen deficiency including: Back pain Headaches and/or migraines Stress and tension Neck problems Chiropractor treatment is also considered beneficial for treating the beginning stages of osteoporosis. It is incredibly effective at restoring flexibility to joints and decreasing muscular tension and pressure on nerves. Chiropractic treatment can provide relief fast, which is often why it is one of the most celebrated alternative remedies. That being said, you will need more than one chiropractic treatment. The average patient has eight annual visits, but this number will vary depending on the health concern. Are there any risk? It is extremely rare for complications to occur during chiropractic treatment, especially if performed by an experienced and qualified chiropractor. Therefore, it is a low risk, non-invasive therapy that is virtually safe for everyone. How do I find a chiropractor? Although you don't need to be referred to a chiropractor by your doctor, it is a good idea to first consult your health care provider to find out if he/she has any recommendations. You should also speak to others who have had chiropractor treatment to learn about their experiences and ask them about their chiropractors. You can find chiropractors to help treat your menopause symptoms by checking your local yellow pages, phoning your local hospital, or doing an online search with your city and "chiropractor" as the main keywords.
